Beamcast – Episode 89

Jean flies solo today for a look at the week in shonen on Beamcast!

First up is Koe no Katachi 29, the latest installment of a series that can’t stop impressing. It may not be the happiest series to read, but it does brilliantly in tackling a difficult subject.

The World God Only Knows 263 is next, along with the sudden news that its next volume will be its last. The plot is setting up that conclusion nicely, at least, but the discussion comparing this arc to the Goddess Hunt will rage on thanks to the news that this arc is finishing the story.

With the preliminaries over, Shokugeki no Souma 62 moves into the heart of the Autumn Election, starting with a tantalizing match for Souma. While all the circumstances surrounding this battle are great, no aspect of this chapter is more impressive than its art.

Finally, the show concludes on a less positive note, as Kamisama no Iutoori II 57 continues in previous chapters’ footsteps by relentlessly stripping the series of creativity and originality.
