I’m just wondering what the hell your ratings are based on.
I pray its personal opinion because your system is disgraceful if thats how you think the world should think.
1 thing i agree on however is your high rating of Bakuman, cause Death Note got me into the manga & anime world and Bakuman has taken a similar grip on my heart, possibly due to the same author and artist… but still.
You keep One Piece and Beezlebub (possibly the 3rd and 5th rated manga’s in weekly jump) high, yet you punish Naruto and Bleach… the top 2 manga’s in jump and Fairy Tail which is 4th.
I’m sorry for this long comment but i felt the need due to the fact that i don’t even know why people read beezlebub and one piece as they are 2 of 4 that i don’t bother reading anymore within the magazine.

Thankyou for your time reading this and i hope that you will comment back so i can gain some understanding which will affect whether i bother using this site again.

    Regards.

You will find a detailed explanation of the Power Rankings system on the About page. To summarize, though, it’s a time-weighted, opinion-based snapshot of a given 5-week period. Table of contents rankings and popular opinion do not factor into the ratings. (The former would be impossible to include because Magazine and Sunday do not rank their tables of contents in the same way as Jump.)

As for your remark that Naruto and Bleach are the top two manga series in Jump, I’d like to know what source you cite. You might be referencing American sales figures or popularity; this site focuses on the series themselves rather than the market involved, but if I ever do reference a market, I reference the Japanese market. In said market, One Piece recently surpassed Dragon Ball as the best-selling Jump series of all time, and its volume releases consistently dwarf those of competing series. For example, the latest One Piece volume to be released (57) sold 1,690,932 copies in its first week; by comparison, the newest Naruto volume (50), which came out the same week, sold 736,467 copies in its first week (fewer than half of One Piece), while the most recent Bleach release (vol. 44) sold 410,245 copies in its first week (less than a quarter of One Piece). Fairy Tail, meanwhile, is not a Shonen Jump series; it runs in Shonen Magazine. That said, its most recent release (vol. 20) sold 263,106 copies in its first week.

All that said, while these figures may happen to reflect the comparative popularity of the series in Japan, they do not play into the power rankings system. I rate each chapter of each series based on several factors (as described on that About page). I have read a wide variety of shonen manga, both current and older series, and I feel I have a good understanding of overall quality in historic context… but ultimately, the site as a whole IS based on personal opinion. If you disagree, that’s great! I don’t expect everyone to share my opinion. If you dislike One Piece and Beelzebub, I can respect that. I write short posts about (almost) every chapter of each series covered in Power Rankings, and if you disagree with my praise/criticism, you’re more than welcome to offer your own opinion as rebuttal. Or, if you think I’m just some insufferable idiot with bad taste, fair enough! Sorry you didn’t enjoy your time here, and I hope you can find a similar website you enjoy.

If we can agree on nothing else, I’m glad you like Bakuman! I’m extremely excited for the anime adaptation this fall.

Without being offensive I would just like to say I had a very good laugh at the comments to this post.
