Hunter x Hunter 301
Careful, Togashi. That first panel of the first page looks dangerously close to a completely drawn background. Don’t get ahead of yourself, now.
Cell lives! The worst non-Bleach chapter of manga in a year wasn’t for nothing.
Wait, maybe it was. Amnesia?
No, it’s actually being used as means for Pouf to try to act against the King. Not bad.
Wings? Oh no! Perfect Cell!
Meleoron is one of the best characters of this arc. Also, page 17 recalls the satisfaction and excitement of a successful use of Gon 3, for any J!US players out there.
Final Flash: Good mix of development and action, and some instances of decent art. Nice chapter.
Just caught up from about seven chapters back, Togashi seems to have gone completely off the deep end. I can’t tell if he’s working up to something genius or if he’s just using all the weird religious crap to make it seem like he’s got grand designs for the end of this arc when he’s really got nothing.
If Gon doesn’t go Super Saiyan rip-apart-some-chimera-ants crazy soon, I will.
That does seem like the inevitable conclusion, but I’m really hoping Togashi can do better. It wouldn’t be too surprising if Gon took out some commanders but cell/meryem (dear god what a great name for the king of the evolutioants) just killed probably the most powerful person we’ve seen in the series with very little effort, I don’t think Gon should be the one to off him. At least not yet. Of the three typical ways he could end this (super saiyan, introducing new more powerful character(s) or cell having some kind of epiphany) none of them seem like they can live up to what he’s built.
Gon kills all the commanders, Meryem is a member of the Genei Ryodan, Kurapica shows up and kills him, we return to better times. Done.
Seriously, it’s going to be difficult for anything from this point on to live up to expectations, so I can only hope for decent character progression. I hate how unimportant Gon and Killua have become.
